Thankful Sundays - Week 1

by - September 11, 2011

Have you ever felt why 'Life' is the way it is? You know, why you have to deal with certain situations when you just don't want to? Why you have to be strong and composed when you just want to breakdown and cry? Yes, like you, I have thought about it too. As much as I hate to admit it, I've no answer to my own question. I don't know why 'Life' throws hurdles at me one after other. I have no idea why my loved ones go through certain situations when they are the best human beings on earth. I have no idea at all...

I'am not going to sit here and write about all the negative things that's been happening in my life. I'am not going to crib about the things I don't have. Nope. I'am going to do just the opposite. I'am starting a series on my blog called 'Thankful Sundays', where every Sunday I would write about those things that I'am grateful for.

And today, for the first post of my series, I would like to thank God for giving me a 'mother'. There is a hadith (sayings of Holy Prophet (saw)) in Islam which is 'paradise lies under the feet of your mother'. You might wonder, what? Paradise under my mom's feet?? What is that supposed to mean?

Meaning of this hadith is simple - you obey your mom, love her, respect her and care for her throughout your life, you are bound to go to heaven. Why? Again the answer is simple. Because, not only did she go through ten months of trouble to bring you into this world, she also spent her lifetime (including sleepless nights) caring for you and worrying about you.

Being a mother now, I'am aware of some of the difficulties my mother would have gone through for me, if not all. My kids are young, very young. I'am so scared of what it would be like when they become teenagers (eeek!) or when they go to college. To understand my mom's job as a mom one hundred percent, I still have a long way to go!

I'am ever grateful to have a mother like mine. She is courageous, inspirational, caring, loving and everything a great mother should be. And most of all she is beautiful - inside out! I love you umma and I'am blessed to have you in my life!

So what are you thankful for?
