Spark On With Neelu | Day 25 | Partner

by - August 11, 2016

If you are worried about taking up the journey of building a business alone, finding a partner to work with can be a great idea. However, it can be a bit intimidating as well. My main worry would be personality clashes - what if our business partnership ruined our friendship or relationship? To answer this question better, I reached out to the founders of Ideyna - Nafisa and Ekta - who are also close friends.

This is what they had to say:

"We have been friends since we were desk mates in high school, then work colleagues and now business owners together. So I guess, in that sense, we have been partnering for many years. We have learnt to pull and prop up each other when we need it. Having that encouraging voice in your partner is pretty valuable.

Having spent so much time together over the years has meant that we've seen each other grow and evolve. We can pretty much anticipate each other's response to a situation. But this doesn't mean we are alike, some of our personality traits are polar opposites and we don't always agree with each other.  It has taken us some time to get here but we now agree to disagree and if we get mad at each other (as will inevitably happen with anybody you work closely with) we try our best, to be frank, and discuss it there and then. It's not always easy but honestly, it's one of the keys to a healthy partnership.

Another trait that binds us together is humour. We 'get' each other in that way. Being friends is easy, being business partners as well as friends is a tad tricky so it helps tremendously that we can laugh at ourselves and look at the lighter side of most things."

Ideyna is an online handmade marketplace where talented and creative people can showcase and sell their products to the world. You can find out more about them by visiting their store or connecting with them via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

PS. I got tired of the cheap watercolor set I have been using and decided to break into Prima Marketing's Tropical Watercolor Set. I love how rich their colors are. These are not artist quality but are perfect for beginners like me!
